This was snack theory meets Baudrillard. The idea that butter, beef tallow, and raw milk have been rebranded from grandma-core to culture war weaponry is absolutely wild — and yet, completely logical in a nation where food = identity = battleground.

I can’t stop thinking about how “seed oil discourse” went from meme to Chipotle marketing copy, and how wellness influencers now co-star in right-wing pipelines. That Erewhon/tractor-supply convergence you called out? Nail on the head. At this point, colostrum powder could honestly run in both the Goop and InfoWars catalogs.

Me to gen-z "You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!" Had such high hopes for that generation and they betrayed themselves and us. Guess it’s up to millennials and some gen-x to save the world.

Only just came across this post - I’ve been super intrigued by the rapidly accelerating convergence of wellness influencers & biohacking with MAGA so this was awesome to read. The thing I find so fascinating about it is that for once this is a very nuanced issue. Some of this wellness stuff is complete nonsense, while other bits are actually rooted in science and completely valid. The MAGA movement tends to be dismissed as “completely bad” by the left, but this is one area where it gets a lot more complicated.

Not American so I don’t care or really understand all the nuance of your politics. But overall it’s good to see a swing back to whole food, less processed, locally and sustainably sourced, etc. regardless of what side it’s associated with. Raw milk appears political in America, but is relatively common in other parts of the world.

that's ok, I'm also not American but living in America and merely sharing my observations on the politcitization of food here
