  • Speaking of consolidated food systems—in order to appease the wrath of the FTC gods, Kroger has agreed to sell off 413 stores and other assets, the more than $20 Billion deal is set to go through in 2024.

    • Basically a slap in hand because—

      “Together, Albertsons Cos. and Kroger currently employ more than 710,000 associates and operate a total of 4,996 stores, 66 distribution centers, 52 manufacturing plants, 3,972 pharmacies and 2,015 fuel centers.”

  • Bacardi acquired Ilegal Mezcal—they had purchased a 20% stake a few years back, and fully purchased the almost 20 year-old brand for an estimated $130 million.

  • Good Meat is being sued (again) for not paying its bills—the latest from CRB Builders and Engineers alleges the amount owed is of a little more than $30 million.

    • Good Meat has raised a total of $267 Million in the span of 3 fucking years—its parent company, EAT JUST is valued at $1.2 Billion. You can’t blame the backlash on plant based companies—it’s giving *major scam* vibes….

    • 🤡 We should’ve known better once plant based companies started raising $100M Series A rounds.

  • Hooray Foods has announced —it’s quitting time for their plant based!

  • Retailers are trying to make “apple” happen—as pumpkin spice mania rages on.

    • Pumpkin spice fatigue is not a thing—we actually owe it to Starbucks for accurately exporting the feeling of “fall” even to countries who DO NOT experience the season.

    • If you fall for bullshit like “pumpkin fatigue” just look at peppermint’s chokehold on winter.

  • Molson Coors expands stake on ZOA energy drink co-founded by Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, who has also successfully co-founded a tequila brand, Teremana, now valued at $3.5 Billion.

    • Molson Coors is low key wanting to capture a winning player in the energy category as it continues to boom.

  • Skinny Dipped raised a $12M Series A—almost a decade after its founding led by Dave Grutman and celebrities like Amy Schumer and Mark Walhberg.

      ’s “airport coded” comment in regards to its packaging (if you don’t subscribe we recommend their paid subscription!)—and it’s definitely a ubiquitous brand at 25,000 retail points including airports and the likes of Publix and Costco.

    • This raise is unique because it’s not led by a venture institution—plus it’s refreshing to see a simple, non-functional (no nootropics or adaptogens involved) snack owned by a mother-daughter duo gear up for it’s next stage like this.

  • Like we predicted R2R: restaurant to retail is going NOWHERE —Momofuku Goods rasied $11.5M —bringing their 2023 raise to a total of $29M (they also announced a raise back in March)

    • CPG has proved a pretty profit for Momofuku even as they shrink their restaurant footprint.

  • Goodles announced a raise of $13.5M in a round led by L. Catterton.

    • Having Gal Gadot as an extension has helped this emerging brand boast itself as a challenging brand to Kraft Heinz and Annie’s—but we have a feeling only time will tell on this…

  • Banza is entering the frozen food breakfast category with waffles.

    • We actually unpacked the whole rise of the “frozen food section” back in 2021.

    • We’ve seen brands like Kraft Heinz or emerging ones like Belgian Boys enter it knowing the growth opportunities that come along with it.

  • Milkbar partners with Cheetos to drop—a Cheetos inspired cake?

    • Anyone on Pinterest back in 2018 was already doing this from cakes to cupcakes?

    • Feels like a huge missed opportunity to have dropped an actual CPG collab based on a something that has a large social media valuation—think back to their Mexican corn SKU
