as i was thinking through the design for my old store, Little Red Box Grocery, I met w/ a local leader who introduced me to the concept of Situational Esteem. Or, "giving someone the courage to brave the door." By which he meant... if you're going into community and calling yourself a grocery store, you'd better look/feel/act like a store that your people will know what to do with. That became a guiding principle for our design decisions (and all that flowed downstream: assortment, pricing, programming).
